Saint Teresa Jornet Ibars
She founded the Little Sisters of the Abandoned Elderly.
Teresa Jornet Ibars was born to a farming family in Lleida, Spain, in 1843. After her father died, she devoted her life to taking care of the elderly, particularly those without families. With her sister and nine other women, she founded the first order of the Hermanitas de los Ancianos Desamparados — the Little Sisters of the Abandoned Elderly — which today maintains over 200 nursing homes across 19 countries, mostly in Central and South America.
