Saint Alypius the Stylite
He lived on a pillar.
When his bishop wouldn't give him permission to become a hermit, Alypius built a church. Next to the church, he built a pillar, which he climbed. He remained there, between Earth and Heaven, for six decades: neither the mockery of men nor assaults from demons could bring him down. Atop his pillar, Alypius spent 53 years standing up, then when his legs finally gave out, another 14 years lying down.
